Our new bookish adventures – 1st August

As well as blogging here, I’m one half of Adventures With Words.  Here’s something I wrote earlier, where I get very excited about some lovely new books!

Reblogged from Adventures With Words:
There’s lots happening behind the scenes at Adventures With Words at the moment, and there’ll be more reviews coming soon, but in the meantime, I’d like to share some of our lovely new arrivals with you.  No, not another royal baby but some fantastic reads that Rob and I have bought, received and even won!

Time Riders, The Last BanquetI try to take part in The Readers’ Book Club when I can, and I recently had a really strong recommendation from WDW Kate (@wetdarkandwild) to try the Time Riders series, so Rob kindly bought the first Time Riders book by Alex Scarrow (Penguin) and The Last Banquet by Jonathan Grimwood (Canongate), for The Readers’ Bookclub, for me from Waterstones.

The Game TrilogyRob received these brilliant looking thrillers recently – The Game trilogy by Anders De La Lotte, published by Blue Door.  These looks very intriguing – I love crime in translation, so I’ll probably try to read these too when Rob’s finished with them!

Cruel SummerI really enjoyed James Dawson’s first novel, Hollow Pike, which I read last year, so I’ve been looking out for his new one for some time – today is publication day for Cruel Summer (Indigo/Orion), so I preordered my copy which arrived this morning.  As a thank you to people who preordered, and because he’s lovely, James sent out personalised bookplates to all those who tweeted him proof in advance, and my bookplate arrived yesterday – what a wonderful way to say thank you to his readers!

Literary Love MatchWhen Rob and I went to Latitude, we mentioned in our podcast that we visited the Picador Loveshack.  I wanted to pop into the Bibliotherapy ambulance and try out the Novel Cure too but it was already fully booked!

All The Pretty Horses, Dirt MusicTo cheer ourselves us, we gifted each other a book; I received Dirt Music by Tim Winton and Rob has All The Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.  Picador are celebrating 40 years, so they’re rereleasing some of their classic novels with these stunning black and white covers; I can’t wait to get started on Dirt Music.

IMG_3064Finally, a huge thank you from me to Harper Collins Children’s Books and Sarwat Chadda, because I was lucky enough to be chosen to win the Ash Mistry trilogy.  I am a big fan of adventurous children’s and YA fiction like Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl and Alex Rider so I’ve got a very good feeling about these.  No doubt you’ll be hearing much more about them in due course.

If I’m honest, I’m a bit overwhelmed with all these wonderful things to read!  It’s a good job I’ve got a bit of a summer break to enjoy them.

Have you read any of these brilliant-looking books?  If so, I’d love to hear what you thought and any other recommendations too…
